Preparation for use
Operational Safety Precautions
Only trained personnel may connect the switch to the power grid. They must read the manual and pass a safety test for consumer electrical installations.
Follow these instructions. They protect you and prevent damage to the equipment. Any non-standard use, including improper testing, may void the warranty. Such actions require written approval from Astrawireless.
Without written permission from Astrawireless, you must not:
Disassemble the switch or modify its circuitry.
Attempt to obtain source code, algorithms, or internal structure.
Make any design changes to the switch.
Remove identification labels from the switch.
General Safety Rules
To avoid injury, electric shock, fire, or damage, follow these rules:
Observe all service markings on the switch housing.
Do not insert objects into openings. This may cause short circuits, fire, or shock.
Use a power supply that matches the switch specifications.
Do not overload outlets or extension cords. This increases fire risk.
Do not place items on power cables or on the switch itself.
Route all cables carefully. Keep them clear of foot traffic.
Ensure the local power supply matches the connected equipment's requirements.
Use only the power cables provided with the switch.
Grounding and Surge Protection
To prevent electric shock, connect the switch and peripherals to grounded outlets. All power cables have three-prong plugs for grounding. Do not use adapters that remove the ground connection. For extension cords, use three-wire cables with grounding prongs.
Respect extension cord and surge protector ratings. The total current draw of all connected devices must not exceed 80% of the extension cord's or protector's rating.
To protect against power surges, use a surge protector, line conditioner, or UPS.
Do not modify power cords or plugs yourself. Follow proper electrical installation practices.
Maintenance and Disassembly
Strictly follow the instructions in the documentation.
Do not open parts marked with a lightning bolt inside a triangle. This may cause electric shock.
Only qualified service technicians should handle these components.
Do not disassemble the switch. Internal parts are not user-replaceable.
Do not spill liquids on the switch. Do not use it in damp or wet environments. If liquid enters the switch, contact qualified service personnel.
Handle the switch carefully during transport.
Operating Conditions
Do not use the switch in high-humidity areas. Avoid exposure to water or cold temperatures that could cause condensation.
Keep the switch away from radiators and heat sources.
Position the switch so that ventilation openings remain unobstructed.
Cleaning the Switch
Always disconnect power before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use only compressed air for electronics or a dry cloth.
Electrostatic Protection
Static electricity can damage the switch. To prevent this, discharge static from your body before touching any components or cables.
Recommendations:
Keep the switch in its antistatic packaging until installation. · Discharge static from your body before opening the packaging. · Use antistatic flooring and personal grounding equipment (wrist straps, etc.).
Operational Restrictions
The switch contains a lithium battery. It is not user-replaceable. Do not open the switch or attempt to replace the battery. Incorrect installation may cause explosion.
Do not operate the switch with a faulty power supply. Do not use a power supply not included in the original package.
Operation Under Extreme Conditions
The switch may operate under extreme conditions for no more than 30 minutes per day. If multiple extreme conditions occur simultaneously, or one continues beyond 30 minutes,normal operation is not guaranteed. Failure under these conditions voids the warranty.
After operating under extreme conditions, inspect the switch for:
Mechanical damage, overheating, or moisture on the power supply.
Dust, overheating, or damage to the switch connectors.
Hardware Installation
Unpacking
Open the box and carefully remove the switch. Check all items for completeness and damage. The contents are listed in the "Introduction" section. If anything is missing or damaged, contact your distributor. For direct purchases from Astrawireless, email support@astrawireless.net.
Mounting the Hardware
The mounting surface must support the weight of the switch and its power supply. Leave adequate space for ventilation and cable access:
At least 15 cm on the side with power connectors, cables, and ventilation fins.
At least 5 cm on all other sides.
Ensure temperature and humidity at the installation site remain within acceptable limits.
Connecting the Switch to an End Device
An end device is a PC or an Astrawireless Evolution unit.
Connect a PC to any Gigabit Ethernet port on the switch using a Cat 5E FTP cable. Alternatively, use the console port with a console cable.
Connect a wireless device to any Gigabit Ethernet port using a Cat 5E FTP cable.
Configuration procedure
Configuration via Web Interface
Web interface configuration for the AstraMUX switch is described in detail in the "Configuration and Management" section.
Configuration via Console Port
If the switch has a console port, use it to connect to a PC for setup.
Steps:
Connect the switch's console port to the PC's serial port using the supplied console cable.
Check the COM port number on your PC. Go to "Device Manager" → "COM & LPT Ports." In this example, we use COM3 (driver installation may be required).
Launch a terminal emulator (e.g., PuTTY: https://www.putty.org/).
Select the serial connection option.
In serial settings, set: baud rate 38400, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity. Disable flow control. Click "Open."
Enter the administrator login and password. After authorization, run the required commands.
Configuration via Telnet
To connect to the switch via Telnet:
Connect your laptop to the switch's first Ethernet port using an Ethernet cable.
Use the SVI interface IP address (10.10.10.1) or the Ethernet interface IP address (eth0 — 10.10.20.1).
If all steps are correct, you will see the AstraFleX login prompt after connecting. A new switch has no default credentials. To log in for the first time, use any non‑empty login and password. For example:
Login: root
Password: 1234
After entering these, you will see a prompt like: console>.
The switch is now ready for initial setup. First, configure the device name, username (login), and password. After that, only these new credentials will grant access.
