# Devices and links
## Adding network hosts
**NEXT** features an automatic discovery function for Astrawireless devices, which performs a continuous, automated search. This function operates by identifying connections linked to devices already present in the monitoring system. Consequently, to monitor the subscriber units of a base station sector, one only needs to add the sector itself. If a new subscriber terminal connects to the sector, it will be automatically discovered and added, provided there is network connectivity between the monitoring system and the new device.
Alternatively, devices can be added to the monitoring system manually. This approach may be more convenient, as it allows devices to be assigned directly to a specific group, whereas automatically discovered devices are placed into a dedicated group - the name of which is defined in Installation wizard.

Device monitoring is available for the following firmware versions (devices with earlier firmware versions will not be added to NEXT):
* Evolution: 0.9.6 or later
* Quanta 4/5/6/70: 1.0 or later

**NOTE**
Before adding network nodes to the system, enable the SNMP support on each device. This process is described in the "Wireless devices preparation" section.
The following networks are reserved by NEXT and unavailable for monitoring:
* 172.17.0.0/16
* 172.18.0.0/16
Please change your IP addresses of your wireless units if they are placed in these networks.

To add network hosts, go to the "Management" section. This section provides a list of all the devices and groups added previously. The following parameters are displayed:
* **Host** - the device's name.
* **Status** - current device status.
* **Family** - the product family of this device model.
* **IP address** - device IP address list.
Adding new devices using jobs. To create a new job for adding devices, click on the "Add Hosts" button. In the "Information" section select the device type:
* **Unicast** - add one device by its IP address.
* Specify the device's IP address.
* **Network** - add multiple devices from a specific subnet.
* Specify the IP address and the network mask.
* **Range** - add multiple devices over a range of IP addresses.
* Specify the first and the last IP addresses of the range.
Then go to the "**Device Groups**" section and select the group to which the devices added in this job should be placed. Devices not covered by the job, but discovered through this process will be placed to the special group for auto-discovered devices.
To start the task, click on the "**Create job**" button.
### Device adding procedure
A network node is not added immediately, but only after polling. The procedure is implemented in the following way:
1. After creating a job, the network nodes are queued for polling. At this stage, they are not yet added to the monitoring system and will not be reflected in the general list.
2. **NEXT** will add a network node to the polling queue.
3. The device will be added to the monitoring system only after a successful SNMP polling.
4. If monitoring system could not access the network node via SNMP, then the polling of this device will be stopped.
To view the job status, click on the "**Jobs**" button and select the appropriate job in the list:
A new window will display detailed information about the jobs. To perform the job again, click the "**Copy**" button at the bottom of the window.
The right side of the window displays information on the number of devices for which the task was completed or not completed. Detailed information regarding the execution of the task for each device, including the reason for any failure, can be viewed in the "**Report**" tab.
## Link Management
If a connectivity between devices is detected during the device polling process, information about this link will be displayed in the corresponding section of the web interface. Communication links can only be discovered and added for devices manufactured by Astrawireless. Newly discovered links appear under the "**Candidate**" tab; their parameters are not collected, and no incidents are generated for them. An administrator can manually enable monitoring for each link by changing its status. Links that are being monitored can be removed (i.e., monitoring can be disabled for them); such links are then moved to the "**Deleted**" tab, from where they can later be returned to a monitored state using the same method as for candidate links.
Automatic monitoring of links can be enabled in the "**Settings**" - "**Other**" section.
